Kindergarten is where students begin learning how to read, count, share, listen and, just as importantly, try. This month, AQS Asset Management is proud to recognize Laura Garcia, a kindergarten teacher at San Perlita Elementary, as our June 2026 Teacher of the Month. Laura knew from an early age that she wanted to become a teacher.

“I had known since elementary school that I wanted to teach,” Laura said. “I wanted to make a difference in children’s lives, like some of my own teachers did.” For Laura, teaching is about helping young students discover what they are capable of. Some of her favorite moments happen when a student succeeds at something they thought they could not do. “In our class, we are always encouraging students to try things on their own,” Laura said. “The excitement and joy they get on their face when they succeed is amazing.”

That confidence does not stop with one student. Laura says her students often begin cheering each other on when classmates face new learning challenges. That kind of encouragement helps build a classroom where students are not afraid to try, struggle and try again. One of Laura’s greatest challenges is helping adults understand why she encourages students to try before stepping in to help.

“We want to build independent learners, but we know what they are capable of,” Laura said.

Even in kindergarten, Laura knows her students are smart, capable and often more independent than they realize. Her work helps them build confidence early, which can carry far beyond the classroom.
