eading can open a child’s imagination, build confidence and create a love of learning that lasts well beyond the classroom. This month, AQS Asset Management is proud to recognize Kathleen Mount, a PreK-3 teacher at Powers Elementary School, as our July 2026 Teacher of the Month.
Kathleen Mount is the July 2026 AQS Teacher of the Month
Kathleen began teaching after her own children were all in school and she was looking to return to work. She started at a preschool and was soon hired by her local public school. For Kathleen, some of the most meaningful moments happen when students discover the joy of reading.
Kathleen Mount Recalls Her Finest Teaching Moments
“When students tell me that they love reading because of the way I read to them,” Kathleen said. “The gift of loving books doesn’t come naturally to everyone.” That is what makes her work so important. Not every student walks into the classroom already excited about books. Sometimes, it takes the right teacher, the right story and the right voice to help a child connect with reading.
“When a class is involved in a story with me, and I can see they don’t want me to stop reading, I’ve done my job,” she said.
Kathleen’s greatest challenge is keeping her classroom library current and engaging for her students. Without a budget for new books, she relies on funds from PTO fundraising to add relevant, up-to-date books to her classroom. A strong classroom library matters. The right book can turn a reluctant reader into a curious one. It can help students see themselves, understand others and build skills they will use for the rest of their lives.

At AQS, we believe teachers are some of the most committed people in our communities. They bring patience, creativity, and heart into their classrooms. They give up evenings and weekends. They spend their own money. They keep showing up, even when the job asks too much and thanks them too little. Their reward is often simply knowing they helped a child understand something, believe in themselves, or discover a little more of what they are capable of.
